Domenica Lopane qualified as a mental health nurse in 1989 and has worked in a variety of mental health settings within the NHS for much of her career. As she developed her personal practice, she trained as a yoga teacher in the 1990’s, and taught groups and one to one within NHS Mental Health services for a number of years. Domenica’s current role is divided between teaching MBCT groups and working as a community mental health nurse within a Community Mental Health team.
She completed the postgraduate Diploma in MBCT at the University of Exeter in 2010 so that she could further develop mindfulness approaches within in her work. In 2010, Domenica jointly set up an MBCT service in the NHS in West Dorset, which provides MBCT groups specifically for recurrent depression across the stepped care model.
Personal practice has been an important part of her life for many years. Both her meditation practice and her work continue to be supported by mindfulness-based supervision plus regular personal and teacher led silent meditation retreats.
Domenica has been a supervisor for the University of Exeter’s postgraduate MBCT programme since 2011.
